The Investigation By Mr Ward, Liberal Democrat MP For Bradford East, Has Found That Rising Costs Are Not Due Mainly To Companies Increasing Premiums Because Of Incidents Involving Uninsured Drivers, As Previously Thought.

Instead It Is Because The Biggest Percentage Of Insurance Payouts Is Not To Cover Damage To Vehicles, But For Personal Injury Claims.

Mr Ward Produced His Report Into The Escalating Costs Of Motor Insurance In Bradford, Sparked, He Said, By Complaints And Concerns Of His Raw Indian Hair Wholesaleconstituents, One Of Whom Was Quoted £26,000 To Insure His Son’s First Car.

More Than 1,000 Residents Have Responded To A Survey By The MP, Who Also Gathered Evidence From The Association Of British Insurers, The Police And Bradford Insurance Brokers, Doctors And Driving Instructors. In Just Three Years, The Average Annual Cost Of Car Insurance For Respondents Rose From Around £550 In 2009 To Just Under £900, An Increase Of 63 Per Cent, The Report Found.

“As We Began To Look At It We Realised It Was A Really Serious Issue A Lot Of People Were Affected By And Started To Look At Some Background,” He Said.

The Report States That Insurers Are Clear That The Rising Cost Of Personal Injury Hair Extensions In India Claims Has Played The Biggest Part In Pushing Up Premiums.

Other Factors Have Also Played A Role, In Particular Credit Hire Costs, Insurance Fraud And The Cost Of Accidents Involving Uninsured Drivers.

According To The Report, Despite The Fall In The Number Of Road Accidents, The Remy Indian Hair Number Of Personal Injury Claims Has Risen By More Than 70 Per Cent Over The Last Ten Years, And The Proportion Of Accidents Involving Third-party Injury Claims Is Now Approaching 25 Per Cent. In Bradford The Figure Is Close To 38 Per Cent, Giving The City Among The Highest Level Of Personal Injury Claims In The UK.

“It Puts A Lot Of People In A Place Where They Challenge Their Ethical Stance,” He Said. “A Lot Of People See It As A Way Of Getting Some Of Their Money Back. Once You Get Into That Spiral It’s Malaysian Body Wave Difficult To Break Out Of It.”

For His Report, The MP Interviewed The Association Of British Insurers’ (ABI) Policy Advisor, Rob Cummings, Who Ranked The Top Three Factors Driving Up The Costs Of Insurance As The Compensation System, In Particular The Cost Of Personal Injury Claims, Insurance Fraud And Uninsured Drivers.

ABI Spokesman Malcolm Tarling Said: “Mr Ward Has Raised Indian Remy Hair Extensions Concerns About The Costs, Particularly For Young Drivers. We Too Are Concerned About The Costs For Young Drivers. Unfortunately They Have To Pay Premiums, Like Any Customers, That Reflect The Risk.”

He Said Statistics Showed Young People Were More Likely To Be Involved In Accidents And The Costs Of Claims For Young Drivers Were Rising.

Introducing Some Form Of Graduated Driving Licence Could Malaysian Curly Hair Ensure Safer Driving, Reduce Accidents And Drive Down Costs, He Said.

He Also Said The ABI Wanted To See The Back Of Referral Fees, Which Can Be Paid To Insurers By Personal Injury Lawyers In Return For Details Of Claims.

“We Would Like To See Referral Fees Banned,” He Said. “It Encourages People To, For Want Of A Better Word, Have A Go, Claim For Injuries Exaggerated And In Some Cases Fraudulent.

“We’re Always Happy To Explain The Position rc Helicopter And Do Work With Members Of Parliament, Road Traffic Groups, Anybody, To Look At Ways In Which We Can Reduce Costs Of Insurance dxtime.org.”

In 2010 The Motor Insurers’ Bureau Identified The BD3 Postcode As The Area With The Highest Number Of Uninsured Drivers In The UK For The 13th Consecutive Year, With Nearly Seven Times More Uninsured Drivers Than The National Average.

Mr Ward Said: “The Thing I Hate To Hear Is ‘Oh Well, That’s Bradford.’ We Should Never Accept That.

“We Are Trying To Have A Real Good Think About How To Make Bradford East The Area With The Lowest Number Of Uninsured Drivers, With The Police, Insurance Companies, Dobbing In. Whatever We Need To Do.”

The Report Also States Bradford Is One Of The Worst Areas Of The Country For Organised Insurance Fraud.

The Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) Has Estimated That There Were 30,000 Staged-collision Claims In 2009 And Rank Bradford As Having The Fifth-highest Level Of ‘cash For Crash’ Insurance Fraud In The Country.

Mr Ward Said: “One Of The Victims Of All This Said He’d Had A Quote And He Said It Was Only Up 20 Per Cent. He Thought He’d Done OK. We Cannot Have This As Being Acceptable.”

Mr Ward Is Holding A Summit At City Hall Tomorrow To Look Further At Possible Ways Of Tackling The Spiralling Costs Of Motor Insurance.

It Will Be Attended By Residents, Members Of The Insurance Industry And The Police. Anyone Who Thinks They Might Be Able To Contribute Can Phone Mr Ward’s Office On (01274) 403973.
